Thanks for the nice comment. Me and the wifey have been admiring your blog since I found a few weeks ago. You seem to make it to some amazing locations a lot of people could only wish they could see. Plus you can actually write.
And yeah, Photomatix can feel like cheating at times. But finding the right spot with a lot of dynamic range to get photos like what you did in your first photo is not exactly easy either.
I’ve been thinking of experimenting with Photomatix – the Great Buddha has just made me think even harder!
It’s all about finding the time though…
Buddha’s come in all shapes and sizes. Because there is a little Buddha in all of us.
Clint – you’re right, careful selection is the key! Just got to keep reminding myself not to go overboard…
RedYeti – I’d recommend it, there’s almost no learning curve. Definitely another nice tool in the box.
Tornadoes28 – true, very true. And thank goodness for it.
That bottom shot I think is the best! I’ll take a look at downloading Photomatix and getting the hang of it. I haven’t tried doing a lot of HDR photos before, but this might be another approach. Now if I could only afford a Canon 5DMII
Hi Ben – I like the bottom photo a lot, too. It’s my wife snoozing on the rear veranda at Kenninji temple in Kyoto. It’s one of my favorite temples.
A good exponent of HDR (and Photomatix) is Trey Ratcliff at http://stuckincustoms.com/. I find some of his work a little “busy”, but there are many inspired shots in there too. And if you decide to buy Photomatix then check out the HDR tutorial on his site, as there is a discount code for it. Good luck!
Gorgeous images, especially the last buddha!
Heh, I’m rather fond of that one, too
